2018 Artists

The success of our first two festivals has enabled us to assemble our most exciting Kimpton line-up yet. Read about them here, watch their videos and book your tickets for Kimpton 2018. We look forward to welcoming you.

Describing themselves as 'electro-African-dubstep-celtic folk', this is of the most energetic and exciting acts you'll ever be likely to see or hear. Sensational in their energy and sheer musicality, they weave an explosion of energy that gets the whole room jumping. Simply not to be missed.

HANNAH SANDERS & Ben Savage

A chance meeting at their local club in Cambridge brought Hannah and Ben’s shared musical passions together into an act that is a sublime, intimate blend of American roots and English folk music.

Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar

Russell’s powerful vocals and driving guitar style and Algar’s All-Ireland winning fiddle playing have seen this duo become one of the most sought after acts on the British folk scene.

while, matthews & While

Kimpton is delighted to showcase a rare outing by folk supergroup While, Mathews and While, combining the internationally acclaimed duo of Chris While and Julie Matthews, with Chris's hugely talented daughter Kellie.

Chris and Julie are 9 times nominated at Radio 2 Folk Awards since 2001: Best Duo, Best Song, Best Live Act.

"The harmonies are to die for." Brian King

The London KleZmer Quartet

Formed in 2009, the band is already popular throughout the UK, has had five sell-out tours in Australia, as well as performing in Brazil, Germany, Holland, Latvia, New Zealand and Switzerland, and has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 & 6, BBC TV, and ABC Radio.

THE JAMES BROTHERS

The James Brothers are not really outlaws, neither are they brothers and only one of them is called James.

They come from the lands down under – Australia and New Zealand to be precise; lands in which the traditional songs and tunes of the British Isles have evolved their own unique characteristics, like musical marsupials.

WILL MCNICOL & LUKE SELBY

Since their formation as a duo in mid 2013, multi award-winning acoustic guitarist Will McNicol and drummer Luke Selby have been gaining rave reviews for their live performances up and down the country. The combination of Will’s intricate melodic fingerstyle playing on both steel and nylon string guitars and Luke’s explosive rhythms on kit and percussion has been making a unique impression.

LUKE JACKSON

Luke is a  Singer/Songwriter from Canterbury, Kent, who in 2013 was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Category.  With a bold, distinctive voice and a sweet, percussive guitar style, Luke is a confident and captivating live performer.

Jackie Oates and Mike CosgrAve

Jackie Oates is a singer and fiddle player with a pure, haunting style. Her distinctive treatment of English ballads and songs, and velvet voice has justly gained her a reputation as ‘a celebrity in the new folk scene’ (The Guardian). Jackie will performing with long-term collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Mike Cosgrave.

Bláthnaid grew up in Northern Ireland and Devon and has been making music all her life.  She has performed with The Levellers, won Gaelic Voices in 2015, and was shortlisted for the Molloy Award in 2017. She has a passion for all types of folk music and enjoys putting her own special spin and interpretation on traditional pieces.

JOSIE DUNCAN & PABLO LAFUENTE

2017 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Winners Josie Duncan and Pablo Lafuente are a vocal/guitar duo like no other. Calling the Isle of Lewis and Spain home respectively, its no wonder their music doesn’t focus on one place, on one of the many strands of Scotland’s web of traditions. They are well travelled, and well versed, in music from across the land.

SAID THE MAIDEN

Jess Distill, Hannah Elizabeth and Kathy Pilkington make up this local three-woman ensemble. In a few short years, the group has risen to prominence around the country, picking up awards in the process.

Winners of Bristol Folk Festival's prestigious Isambard Award, Said The Maiden will wow you with their versions of traditional songs from the US and the UK.

Kelly Oliver

Described by the Times as an 'artist who blends traditional music with bold indie-pop,'local girl Kelly Oliver is a singer/songwriter par excellence. Her 2016 album Bedlam [included in the Sunday Times 'Essential New Releases'] was rated among the best albums by a female artist of the year by Folkwords. We are delighted to be welcoming this rising star back to Kimpton.

Jaywalkers

Since reaching the finals of the BBC Young Folk Awards in 2008, Jaywalkers have cemented their place as one of the most exciting, virtuosic and entertaining young bands working on the British Folk scene.
